On Friday, October 28, David Boteler brought his magnificent Pulse XT electric monster to a practically deserted Agate Field. This was the maiden flight for this airplane and it required virtually no trim. It sports a very impressive electric motor that David wired for redundancy. The Pulse even has limited telemetry that can report the condition of the two on-board batteries.
David recently was awarded his level I badge and is well on his way to gathering an impressive armada of planes.
Big applause to David!

Rick Nunes is a brand new Rogue Eagle with his first three flights under his belt. He came to the Rogue Valley 11 years ago from sunny San Jose where his local club was so crowded that it was literally "TAKE A NUMBER" to fly.
Rick is 60 years young and is looking to branch out from his current hobby of "cowboy-action-shooting" that he enjoys with his wife of 32 years.
Rick, welcome to the club!

Joseph Jones recently moved to Southern Oregon from Central Oregon to enjoy our fine weather. Joe has flown RC before but has limited experience and is in the process of honing his skills in order to earn his level I badge.
This young man of 56 years has a degree in Automotive Mechanics has also been married for 32 years and is a hobby shooter.
We welcome you to the Rogue Eagles!

Saturday, October 8, was a big day at Agate Skyways in Medford, Oregon, for Spencer Weeks. He took to the air with a club trainer coached by Larry Myers on the "buddy box" and enjoyed his first flight of a radio controlled model airplane.
Spencer and his family have been attending the Rogue Eagles annual airshow for the past two years and Spencer has shown an interest in flying model aircraft. Through their acquaintance with Larry Myers, a date was arranged when Spencer could come to the field and try his wings.
Time flies at the speed of a tortoise to an anxious 10 year old. Spencer's mom, Joann, said that he had been asking for days when the family would be going to the airfield, and finally that day arrived.
Calvin Emigh and Larry Myers provided preflight safety instruction, then introduced Spencer to the bird that he would be flying, a Midwest 60, and showed him the "buddy box" system that they would be using that day. The "buddy box" system assures that a competent pilot is present to take-off and land the aircraft and is always in a position to take control of the plane in case it starts to "stray".
It wasn't long after he was airborne that everyone realized that, at 10 years old, "right" means different from "left" depending upon whether the aircraft is coming toward you or going away. After the flight, Spencer had fun cleaning the plane and just feeling like one of the guys.
Joann said that they spent the rest of the day watching kids of ALL ages fly their planes and enjoying the wonderful time. According to Joann, Spencer thanked everyone as he left and waited approximately 9.3 seconds before asking, "When can we come back?"
We look forward to seeing Spencer at the field again in the future.

Les, a very long term Oregon resident finally convinced son, Howie, to move to our fine state a few years ago. Les seems to be the builder in the family (working on a float plane at the present time) with several airplanes to his credit, incuding this Smoothie that has had a few mishaps but continues to fly.
Howie was trained recently by several Rogue Eagles and has earned his level I badge. He now seems ready and willing to try anything, including Pylon racing. It is gratifying to see such enthusiastic new flyers. Just remember that when flying model airplanes "Ground Bad...Air Good".
We welcome these new additions to the Rogue Eagles family!
